A New Jersey Assemblyman is calling for an investigation into the mysterious firing of a long time casino employee, who was also extremely outspoken on the subject of banning smoking in the casinos.
The long time employee and table game supervisor from Somers Point was fired on Sunday from one of the city's hotel and casinos.
A spokesperson for the casino said they had no comment on the reasons for the man's layoff.
The man had been with the casino for 26 years, and had become the most outspoken person on the subject of banning smoking in casinos after it was discovered by his doctor that he was suffering from Lung cancer, that he says can only have come from Second Hand Smoke in the casino.
After hearing about his firing the Assemblyman immediately sent a letter to the Attorney General, the state labor board Commissioner and even the state casino control Commissioner and asked them to look into the reasons for the casinos sudden action.
The former casinos employee, who has always been a non smoker, was found to have lung cancer 2 years ago, and had to have part of one of his lungs removed.
In 2006 he filed a lawsuit against the corporation that at the time owned the casino. He claimed that his cancer was caused from years of working in a room breathing in second hand some all day every day that he has worked for the last 26 years.
A week before his firing he testified to a Senate committee supporting the construction that will ban all smoking in the casinos.
His lawsuit is still pending.
