Members of the Lehigh administration discussed the subject of banning access to online gambling site

Meeting of the Members of the Lehigh administration on the subject of banning access to online gambling sites all over the campus occurred this week. Amongst the staff members who discussed this possibility were Vice Provost of Student Affairs John Smeaton, Vice Provost of Library and Technology Services Bruce Taggart and General Counsel Frank Roth.

John Smeaton said that the banning of gambling sites is one of two options of educational programs that will deal with problem gambling amongst the university students. Smeaton does not believe that blocking gambling sites is the right way to deal with the problem, he thinks that the best way to deal with it is through education.

Smeaton referred the question of civil liberties to Roth, who was not available for response. Smeaton believes that Lehigh has the right to limit access to gambling sites. Lieutenant Robert Bruneio of Lehighs police department confirmed that these acts are legal. Bruneio claimed that gambling in illicit places is illegal but difficult to track.
