Vista Hills Rotary Club decided to move their poker charity tournaments to Juarez. According to Texas gambling law, poker tournaments are forbidden even if the profits are donated to charity organizations.
Members of the Vista Hills Rotary Club are expecting around 300 poker fans from El Paso to participate in the poker tournament. El Paso residents would be able to pay 125 dollars entry fees that include transportation to the luxurious Maria Bonita Hotel in Juarez. The biggest prize in the tournament is a 5,000 dollars American Express gift card.
Vista Hills Rotary Club together with the Juarez Rotary Club hopes to raise between 5,000 dollars and 10,000 dollars in the event. The money raised will be donated to public schools and to other projects.
Texas Motorcycle Rights Association, which had to remove their traditional charity poker runs due to Texas gambling law, is considering copying Vista Hills Rotary Club idea.
