With the new gambling law just over 2 weeks old, so far the only ones enforcing the new ban are the publicly traded online gambling companies.
2 weeks ago President George W Bush signed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Bill into law, this law is aimed at stopping the transfer of funds from American banks and other financial institutions from transferring money to accounts used for the purpose of placing bets or paying off winnings.
But the law can not yet be enforced because there is no system currently in service that can perform this task. The banking system will need to have a complete overhaul of how they deal with transferring money from bank to bank, the government will also need to supply them with every known account tied to online gambling, these accounts are then easy to block, but the system needs to be able to determine the reason for the transfer.
Many of the casinos in Brittan also have online casinos, so the bank needs to be able to determine if I am trying to place a bet or if I am making a payment for a hotel room, and this is where the law is going to fall short.
If the online casinos are not fully cooperative then there is almost no way that they can fully be stopped.
There are plenty of third party overseas financial institutions that would be glade to act as a buffer and allow American gamblers to keep on betting by having the moneys first transferred to them then since they are located overseas those accounts could then transfer your bet to the casino, and the banks are not responsible for any such transactions that occur as long as they are not aware of what these accounts are used for.
A roar over this online gambling ban can be herd all over the internet, and talk radio shows. I have personally received at least 5 different petitions in my email to repeal this law, but a clever man by the name of Jim Nickogoski has started his own myspace page to protest this "unfair and demeaning law".
