Louisiana Casinos Profits Rose

Even though there are fewer casinos in Louisiana compared to last year, gambling profits increased.

Louisiana casinos profits increased in 2006 January comparing to the same month last year despite the fact that before hurricane Katrina there were four more casinos in Louisiana.

The state gambling halls earned 203.7 million dollars last January, while in 2005 January the profits from gambling were 184.5 million dollars. The twelve riverboat casinos earned 169.3 million dollars, 40 million dollars more than last year. The three racetracks slot machines earned 34.4 million dollars a rise from January 2005 27.1 million dollars revenue.

The Boomtown Casino in suburban Harvey was the most profitable of Louisiana casinos in January, earning about 24.6 million dollars from players. Harrah downtown New Orleans casino was closed during January and was reopened on Friday. Columbia Sussex riverboat casino the Belle of Orleans was also closed in January.
