New legislation allows handheld gambling devices in Nevada casinos.

The Casinos Handheld Wager

It will not be too long before gamblers are able too shoot dice while lined up waiting to see their favorite musician, or playing craps and roulette under a poolside umbrella. Even a trip to eat in a restaurant will no longer keep gamblers from playing the slots. A law approved last month by the governor of Nevada approved the use of wireless, handheld gambling devices at its hotel-casinos making it the first U.S. state to do so.

It's a small step forward for the casino companies that are aching to offer Internet-based gambling, while they watch offshore competitors rake in the huge profits from a region of business banned to them by federal law.

Under the new law, the hand held devices can only be used in the public areas of casinos that have availability to 100 or more slot machines and that offer at least one other gambling type game. Hence the devices would then be barred from hotel rooms and other private areas not within the casino.

And they won't be available overnight. A chairman of the State Gaming Control Board announce that it could still be several months before regulators can set rules for using the handheld devices.

This generation tech-savvy individuals, the late baby boomers and the next generation all grew up with technology and computers in their hands. Many people have PDAs, this is something like that.

Nevada is the first state to have a bill that will allow this. Soon New Jersey and Mississippi will follow suit. No pun intended.
