A group of business people joined the Kentucky opposition against expanding gambling. The new group, named Say No to Casinos claims that casinos expanding will damage local economics and will cause crime growing.
The Kentucky gambling supporters say that expanding gambling would profit the community, when the millions of dollar taxes will support education, healthcare and social services. Kent Ostrander, executive director of the Family Foundation in Lexington, says that the fight expanded gambling was his group main concern. He claims that the result of expanded gambling on the economics could be harmful, because people who will spend most of their money on gambling could be left without money to spend in local business.
Supporters say that since many people from Kentucky are anyway gambling in offshore casinos floating in Indiana and Illinois, allowing gambling in Kentucky will help keep the money in the local business.
