The leading casino gaming company Harrahs Entertainment marks the first anniversary to Hurricane Katrina. Due to the storm, Harrahs had to shot three of its properties in New Orleans, Biloxi and Gulfport, Mississippi. Almost 8,000 of Harrahs employees lost their jobs because of Hurricane Katrina.
Last year American saw one of its biggest natural disasters, Hurricane Katrina. Harrahs Entertainment, which had to close its Gulf Coast three casinos in New Orleans, Biloxi and Gulfport, marks the first anniversary of the storm. Right after the storm, Harrahs workers and business partners raised funds to benefit Harrahs employees who lost their jobs.
Harrahs employees who were affected by the storm were paid for the next three month after the storm. The company also opened temporary shelters in Louisiana and Mississippi. In addition, Harrahs Foundation raised 6.6 million dollars through the Employee Relief Fund to benefit 6,300 employees of Harrahs employees.
A year after Hurricane Katrina, Harrahs is still committed to recover both New Orleans and Mississippi. Two of Harrahs properties were reopened during the past year: Harrahs New Orleans opened in February and Grand Casino Biloxi was reopened by the beginning of August. Almost 3,800 of Harrahs employees have returned to their former jobs at the company.
