Illegal gambling is a problem in Thailand especially where local police turn a blind eye.

Officer Arrested in Illegal Casino in Bangkok

More than 400 gamblers have been arrested in illegal casino in the Thon Buri area of Talin Chan in Bangkok. To add more insult to injury to the local police force, it has been found that the owner of the building is a local police man who has been charged with running an illegal gambling casino.

It is always the same in Bangkok, the police look the other way and special police task forces are brought in and round up hundreds of gamblers to make the front page of the headlines in the local papers. After a bit, the excitement begins to fade.

But in the latest such raid, the police have been found to have had a larger part in the scheme, or at least more than taking bribes to look the other way. Now the casino that was raided was found to be owned by a local police officer.

Senior officers and the commander of the Talin Chan police station have been transferred out of the district to help facilitate the investigation.

It is also believed that an earlier raid on a casino in an area near to Talin Chan, Phya Thai has some connections with the current raid, and that these transfers to different districts is in accordance to current regulations with Thai police.

The problem is that the police turn their heads, and accept bribes, when the action is illegal in Thailand and in their areas of jurisdiction. These problems must be rectified either by local police or the government must step in to fix the problem.
