Sportsbook Cancels Bets

by Dave Jerkelton
( August 6 2007 15:12 )
Because of some very odd betting patterns Betfair has decided to cancel bets.

For the first time ever Betfair an online Sportsbook had to cancel all bets placed on a tennis match between Nikolay Davydenko from Russia and Martin Vassallo Arguello or Argentina.

The Sportsbook made the decision to cancel the bets and return all the money after they noticed that they were receiving more then 10 times the normal amount of bets for a tennis match with more then 7 million dollars in bets being placed on the underdog Arguello.

As per their agreement the Sportsbook reported these odd bets to the ATP for them to investigate the possibility of game fixing.

In recent weeks a referee from the NBA has been accused of betting on games that he was presiding over, and now all sports are being extra careful to investigate every single report of odd behavior.

The ATP has an agreement with many of the Online Sportsbooks that they should be notified immediately if the Sportsbooks notice any unusual betting patterns so that the ATP can investigate.

The Sportsbooks also agreed to turn all records over to the ATP so they can view the irregularities for themselves.

The ATP takes the threat of match tampering very seriously.
