To Ban Smoking or Not to Ban Smoking That is the Question

Will A Bill Exempting the smoking ban in casinos in Detroit is waiting for a vote in the Senate.

With states all over the country banning smoking in all public places, Detroit is still fighting to allow smoking to continue in certain venues such as casinos, cigar bars and bingo halls. A bill passed the house on Friday by a vote of 65-39 in favor of making exceptions in the ban on smoking but the bill still needs to be passed by the senate.

So far all the bills that have been passed to the senate have banned smoking in restaurants and bars, while making exceptions for Detroits casinos. this has sparked protests from bar and restaurants owners who complain this will take business away from them.

The house is willing to make exceptions for casinos because of the money they bring into the state and if the casinos profits start to drop they will start to lay off people which will cost the state money. The ban on smoking does not apply to Indian casinos because they are only bound to agreements with the federal government and not states laws.

Many are speculating that if the senate does not pass this bill then the next bill will call for a complete ban on smoking even in casinos and bingo halls. All previous bills allowing smoking exemptions have been shot down in the senate.

Should this lattes bill fail top pass the senate the house is ready with the next bill waiting to be voted on. Some say this is a mistake it shows that the house is weak and that it will cave to the senate when things don't go their way.
