According to a study to soon be released, the government could possibly bring in roughly 3.3 billion dollars in taxes annually if they were to regulate internet poker in the
US. This comes on the wings of and expected debate over
legislation to completely ban online gambling in the US.
Also according to the study, which was commissioned by the Poker Players Alliance, a group called for regulating online gambling, says that from online poker alone, income tax winnings are an estimated 60 billion dollars worldwide last year, could amount to the US government taking around 2 and a half billion dollars each year.
The problem is that the US Government has been against the idea too long and sat idle too long in their attempts to either squash legislation or to work out a deal that could help bring in more than two billion dollars every year in taxes from online poker alone, this does not include online casinos and bingo halls.
Due to a 1 percent user fee for online poker transactions, an estimated 800 million dollars again would be produced from another miniscule tax for the US Government per year.
Due to a 1961 law that forbids telephone betting between states also applies to the internet, which did not exist in 1961, making it an illegal industry in which to do business in the United States.
The group that conducted the study says that some people would still be deterred from playing online because of the fees and taxes but legalized poker online would increase the number of players and the amount of revenue.
Already the internet poker market is growing at 10 to 15 percent every year and is expected to grow to an even larger projection.
