The Los Carnales/La Familia Law Enforcement fraternal motorcycle club has announced that some of the proceeds from the fifth annual open house and poker run will go to donated to Christopher Rodriguez, who was hit with a stray bullet and paralyzed earlier this year.
One day during a music lesson at the school on Piedmont Avenue and Pleasant Valley Road. The gas station across the street was being robbed. During the robbery the crook fired several shots at the attendant and one of the shots hit 10 year old Christopher. The shooter and an accomplice were captured by police and they are awaiting trial.
The incident too place back on January 10th of 2008. It is because the shooting took place less then one block away from the Motorcycle clubs clubhouse that the group decided to honor Rodriguez in their poker run, according to the clubs president Larry Robertson, a police officer with the Oakland police.
"We are part of the neighborhood and Christopher is going to be in dire need for the rest of his life," Robertson said.
This is not the first time this Motorcycle Club has used charity events like their poker run to help others. Some of the people the group has raised money for in the past are the family of Will Seuis, who was a police motorcycle officer who was killed in the line of duty and the family of an Antioch police officer who died of cancer
The poker run will start from the groups clubhouse at 4425 piedmont Ave. the entrance fee will be $20 for a bike and 1 rider or $30 for a bike with 2 riders. The rout for the poker run will go across the Easy Bay.
Riders may register from 8 to 10:30AM. There will be an open house from 11AM till 5PM with a Silent auction, raffles and a barbecue. There will also be a custom bike show and live music.
