Costa Rica is likely to tax all the casinos which are registered in the country.  It is expected that when the casinos are regulated and taxed there will be more online casinos that would operate from within the country, thereby preventing the flow of revenues outside the country.

A bill for the regulation is in process.  It is expected that the execution of the bill will likely have nearly a $100 million dollar a year boost for the treasury in funds from taxes of casinos.  The lawmakers have been in two teams as usual where some were in favor and some were against the bill.

There is yet another reason for why there is an opposition for taxing.  It is feared that the casinos that are operating with their base in Costa Rica might abandon the country when taxes are implemented on them.  If this happens, then quite a lot of casino workers from Costa Rica might lose jobs.

However, regardless of all such opinions, the Minister Jenny Phillips does feel that it is important to tax and regulate the industry. He feels that regardless of where the casinos shift their operations to, there is still going to be some degree of taxes associated with them.

The gambling bill is a part of the reform to tax law. It is most likely that the biggest bases for online casinos will impart taxes very soon.
