Despite the fact that last month Pennsylvania casinos had a big bump in their slots business some experts are saying that they will feel the hit this month. These experts in the gambling industry say that this was not an unexpected phenomenon.
For years the Atlantic City city council has been trying to pass a ban on smoking in the city's casinos. Casino lobbyists have always managed to fight the bill saying that a ban on smoking will chase the players to casinos in surrounding states that still allow smoking, now those experts have proof.
In November of 2008 the same time period as the mysterious spurt of growth at Pennsylvania's casino a 27 day smoking ban was enforced in all of Atlantic City's casinos.
Now with this evidence that smoking will hurt the Atlantic City Casinos business it will make it harder for the City Council to pass their smoking ban. If they do pass it they are knowingly cutting their own budget, because if the casinos make less money then the government will receive less money from the casinos in taxes. The reason New Jersey legalized casino gambling in the 70's was so that they could use the tax revenues to help fund schools, police, firemen, public hospitals and many needed social programs.
Chances are the City Council will decided that the smoking ban is a bad idea and will go to a policy or separation between smoking areas and non smoking areas.
The idea of having an enclosed area where people can smoke and play their games has been knocked around for many years but now it seems like the best idea the casinos and the state have to offer.
