The lawsuit was filed in the Trenton A New Jersey resident is suing several of Atlantic City's casinos. In the lawsuit the man claims that the casinos named in the lawsuit are discriminating against the handicapped by not making their casinos and hotel areas fully handicapped accessible.
The lawsuit was filed in the Trenton NJ District Court during the last few days, and names Harrah's Atlantic City; Bally's Park Place; Resorts International Hotel and Casino; Tropicana Casino and Resorts; Trump Marina, Trump Plaza and Trump Taj Mahal; Showboat Atlantic City; Caesars Palace and Hilton as the offending casinos.
The charges made in the suite are that the casinos violated the American Disabilities Act of 1990 and NJ Discrimination Laws
According to Dempsey's lawyer the fact that the casinos have designed their casinos with what amounts to barriers that cause certain people to not have access to services, accommodations and recreational areas regardless of it being intentional or not is a form of discrimination and is against the law, but does say that he does qualify As being disabled, and does require a wheelchair to get around.
Dempsey does not mention his particular handicap in his lawsuit but does say that he does qualify As being disabled, and does require a wheelchair to get around, and claims that he ran into many violations of the law in the casinos such as:
Cashier service stations and ATM Machines are too high for people in wheelchairs to access.
Gaming tables that are too high for Wheelchair bound patrons to access
Lack of information signs informing of handicapped accessible facilities
Slot machines areas that are only accessible by stairs
Slot machines that are inaccessible because of non removable seats attached to the machines
Restrooms without dispensers or hand dryers lower to the ground
The plaintiff is not suing for damages, but is bringing this suit to force the casinos to make their facilities accessible to handicapped people
