The Westbank First Nation, also known as the WFN has a renewed interest in developing a casino in the Indian Reserve Lands in the Westside.

The Sensisyusten House of Learning staged the annual meeting of the WFN Advisory Council on April 23, 2009.  The advisory council members are the representatives for more then 8000 non-band members living in the reserve lands.

Robert Louie, the Chief of the WFN Advisory Council was questioned about the proceeds relating to the idea of a casino in the reserve land by a non-band member.  In response to the query Louie remarked “It’s interesting you bring that up (because) it’s being brought to the front burner right now, it was on the back burner.”  He also added that the WFN is seriously working on the idea.  A number of legal regulatory measures are to be met in this regard, if the casino on the reserve land should become live in picture.

In response to the media reports of the WFN meeting, Findlater, a mayor from the neighboring West Kelowna area stated that he has seen ideas like this come and go before.

The B.C. Lottery Corporation put forth the fact that the WFN has not initiated the application proceeds for the casino.

A spokesman felt that the WFN casino should be thought over in the facet of the declining gambler attitude and gambling market trends.

Findlaters also was curious to know if there will be a revenue sharing agreement for the municipality if a casino were to be established, because he was more interested in what the municipality gets.
