When it comes to bringing Tourism money to Main the Ski resorts are used to being the states big draw, and to make sure things stay that way the big three ski resorts are against a new casino in the area.
The three ski resorts are Sugarloaf USA, Saddleback and Sunday River. The reason they are against the opening of a casino that was proposed in Western Maine is very simple to understand, they want to keep all the money for themselves.
The ski resorts are resorting to the old standard that anyone uses when they are fighting against casino expansion, and that is that the casinos will bring crime to the area and destroy the family atmosphere in Maine.
In a letter to the Employees of the Sunday River ski resort, the general manager Dana Bullen said "Maine is known for its rugged outdoor image, uncompromised natural beauty, family-friendly environment and Yankee originality. There is a stark contrast between these atributes, for which Maine is known, and those associated with casino gambling,"
The opposition is also making its point well known. The casino supporters are accusing the ski resorts of not wanting to bring new high paying jobs to the states because it may take money from their pockets.
According to the spokeswoman for the casinos, Pat LaMarche, the casinos are trying to stop the people of Maine from getting better paying jobs. Her comments were aimed at the Sunday River ski resort after they made financial donations to Casinos No the group who is leading the fight against opening casinos in Maine.
