Red Dog poker is a casino version of Acey-Deucey (aka In-Between) poker game. In fact, Red Dog poker is quite rare in brick & mortar casinos, but is very popular online.

How to Play:

To start the game, a Red Dog poker player places a bet of any size permitted by the table limits. The player than receives two cards face-up. The player wins if the third card falls between these two cards, meaning that its rank is higher than one of the cards and lower than another one.

If two initial cards are consecutive, the third card can not fall between them, so the game is not played and the player receives his wager back. If these two cards are a pair, the third card is dealt, and if the resulting hand is Three of a Kind, the player is paid his wager 11:1. Otherwise it is a push, and the player neither wins nor loses anything.

If two initial cards are not consecutive and do not match, the dealer announced the spread and the odds for this spread. The spread is a number of possible cards that can fall between the two initial cards, and odds is the proportion in which the bet will be paid if the player wins. For example, two initial cards of a player are a 10 and a King, the spread is 2 (Jack and Queen). The odds for every spread are determined by a spread-odds table defined by the casino. A standard spread-odds table is the following:

  • Spread 1 - Odds 5:1
  • Spread 2 - Odds 4:1
  • Spread 3 - Odds 2:1
  • Spread 4 or more - Odds 1:1
So, if a player with a 10 and a King gets a Jack or a Queen as his third card, he is paid 4:1. Otherwise he loses.

Before receiving the third card, a player has an option to double his initial bet, unless he has a pair.
