Top 5 video poker mistakes
Even the best poker players will sometime make the same mistakes as someone relatively new to poker when going from live play to a video poker machine. After doing much research I have found the most common mistakes people make and listed them here to help you from making the same mistakes.
- When playing video poker you are not playing against another person as if you were playing in an online game on your computer, you are only playing against a computer algorithm, so bluffing will not help. The computer is programmed to play depending solely on the cards.
Depending on the game you play a pair is usually not going to win, but in many video poker games you do not even play against the computer, you get paid depending on the hand you get, and with a pair you will get back your bet. - In video poker the bets are usually smaller then in a real poker game, so if you are trying to break the bank you have to make larger bets, on a twenty five cent machine a full house may only pay 5 dollars if you only bet 1 quarter.
- Believe it or not many people will try to count cards in a video poker game. In video poker every hand has at least 1 entire deck in it and every hand you are playing with an entire deck.
- Not playing the hand out is a very common mistake. In poker if you do not have a good hand you should fold. You should never fold in video poker. The reason why we fold in poker is so we don't have to keep throwing money into the pot when we know we have a bad hand. In video poker the money is bet before, so play it out you have nothing more to lose.
By avoiding these mistakes you can vastly improve your chances of walking away a winner
